Avril Lavigne is accused of racism after latest music video!
Avril Lavigne has released her latest music video belonging to the single "Hello Kitty". Critics argue that it is a bad song - but also that the video is racist. In the video, Lavigne dancing around with Japanese dancers, visiting candy shops and generally exaggerate the Japanese kawaii culture.
Many thought the singer's attempts to be playful was insulting. In social media accused her instead of being insensitive and racist, and the hashtag # avrilracist trended on Twitter. "Are not sure if Avril Lavigne's video is horrible, racist or just horrible racist," wrote one follower.
Avril herself took the criticism easily, and says she is not at all racist. "RACIST?? LOLOLOL!, I love the Japanese culture and spend half my time in Japan., I flew to Tokyo to record the video," she wrote on Twitter.
